Choosing a look for your upcoming session is important, but can be stressful.

I am here to give you a quick guide to make it easier.

To start, pick one favourite or “must have” item and then build the rest of the look around that .

COLORS

YES COLORS

Winter / Autumn

Summer/Spring

The above colours seem to photograph beautifully.

This range can create gorgeous tones to your final image.

(Note, these are just my opinions).

NO COLORS

These colours can dramatically change the tone of an image.

Theses Colours don't photography well. They tend to cast a colour onto onto the face and change skin tone of everyone in the photo.

(Note, these are just my opinion)

Texture, Style and Sizing

Now let's discuss textures, style and sizing. Mixing textures can add dimension to your photographs.

For example, Mum could wear a flowy rayon/cotton dress, while her son wears a linen, textured button up. Her daughter could wear a lace and cotton blend dress. Dad could wear a blue chambray shirt.

Some styles of clothing just do not photograph well. For example , cargo shorts. They tend to look bulky, and they make the photos no longer timeless. Tight or short dresses are also something to avoid. They limit you with posing options. I is best not to have to worry about things like underwear lines, bra lines, and more. Multi- colored, patterned busy button ups can make the photo look busy.

Clothing items with large logos should be avoided as well. Ladies, please make sure your bra straps are not showing.

Please make sure children do not present in their larger fitting clothes. Fitted clothing looks much better. providing cleaner lines and a better end result.

Light, moveable fabrics are ideal.

Large head bands and bows are extremely distracting. Try a cute wide brim hat instead or head wrap.

Suspenders are a wonderful way to spruce up an outfit. For little ones - they could even go shirtless with suspenders, and cute jeans.

Dressing for locations

Dressing to suit the location is important. If we’re shooting in a forested/green location - avoid colors that will blend in. Stay away from green and white. Colours that come up best in a green location are mustard, rust, and rose.

If we’re shooting at the beach - you can wear any recommended colors above. There are however a few colours that tend to enhance the blues in the water. Burnt orange, rust, yellow, lavender, and white look great.

Fields or paddocks are similar to the beach - however there are just a few colours that work best. Like maroon, mustard, navy and white
